Club History
Founded 1966
Streetly Hockey Club was originally founded by David Clark, Andrew Pike and Martin Moore. The first men's game was played on October 1st, 1966 losing 3-2 to Coleshill GS. The Ladies section was added in 1977 under the guidance of Deb Stainforth and Paula Aston.
The Streetly Clubhouse was originally shared with Streetly Cricket Club, a wooden structure, which unfortunately burnt down and was replaced by the outstanding Clubhouse that exists today. The President's Lounge extension was built in 2005 (honouring David Clark). It is now home to Streetly Cricket, Hockey and Bowls.
The Club home pitch started out on the playing fields adjacent to the Club house behind the Community Centre. A move to Doe Bank Lane was short lived due to appalling playing conditions. A spell at the HP sauce ground at Grange Road and Salford Stadium (under Spaghetti Junction) was followed by a lengthy term at Alexander Stadium. When The Streetly School approached the Club to support their developments into achieving Sports College status, including the laying of a new Astroturf on the existing Redgra pitch, Streetly moved to this present day home pitch.
Men's League hockey started in 1976/77. From 1985-87 Streetly achieved unprecedented success, under the captaincy of Adrian Alsop, playing in the Midlands Premier Division finishing 3rdin the League. This was prior to the commencement of the National League.
The Ladies section achieved their highest league status to date in 2004 by reaching Division 1 of the Staffordshire League under the captaincy of Linda Gawthorpe.
The Club has grown/shrunk/grown over the years, but is currently at its' strongest with the Men's 1st XI playing in the West Midlands Premier Division. There are 3 other Men's teams plus Fathoms and Badgers. The Ladies section have two sides with the 1st XI playing in Staffordshire Division 2, 2nd XI in Division 4. A mixed side play in Cup competitions and attend festivals on a regular basis.
The Junior section was set up in 2000 under the guidance of Adrian Lacey. It now boasts teams at U18 men's, regularly competing in Cup competitions, U17, U16, and U14 boys, with mixed sides at U12 and U10. The current strength in both sections is a tribute to the success of the Junior section. Players have come through representing Club and County at various levels with Streetly represented today at JAC (County) U17, U16, U15, U13 boys and girls and GB colleges.
